Features and Benefits

Engine - The new Tier III Caterpillar C9 ACERT® Technology engine boasts more power than any tractor in its class with 537 cubic inches (8.8 L) of displacement and 52% PTO torque rise.

PTO power growth of up to 13% also allows you to harness more power to pull through tough spots without having to shift down or raise the implement.

Transmission

Built from the ground up solely for use on a track tractor, the transmission features push-button control for all of the 16-forward and four reverse gears.

Nine individual clutch packs—seven rotating and two stationary—ensure both reliable power transfer and smooth performance. Each of the 16F/4R gears is engaged when a combination of one range clutch and one speed clutch is engaged. The tractor will not “freewheel” in any gear, and maintains constant speed, so the operator is in control, even on the steepest grades.

Using the Intellitronics network, continuous electronic communication between the engine and the transmission ensures smoother shifts in any gear. The various electronic controls for the drivetrain also allow the operator to choose from six shifting modes. They include: Shuttle shifting; programmable shifting; continuous shifting; sequential (pulse) shifting; pre-select shifting, and speed matching.

Transport speed

At 24.6 mph (39.6 km/h), Challenger has a faster transport speed than any other track tractor, so more time can be spent in the field and less on the road. In the meantime, a pioneered and patented differential steering system provides even better control thanks to an electronic over hydraulic system. True speed-sensitive steering and controlled steering response prevents ‘twitching’ on the road for a comfortable, controlled ride.
